This is the idea I had bouncing around in my head. She is small but cunning in her tactics for survival.
She wears a bird skull on her head to intimidate predators that are larger than her. I want to
stay away from the Ferngully look and explore more of something in the Dark Crystal universe, also
I was heavily influenced by Brian Froud's work. I'm gonna start blocking in her proxy model this week.

I really like the difference in her gear from left side to right side. If she's a wood sprite, I think I'd like to see a little more woodsy stuff on her? The acorn is fun though, that's perfect!

Thanks, yeah I plan to have her wrapped in vines and bark from trees.
I think I'll start color palette testing soon. Since she will be a 3D model my concept time
is kinda limited, but I'm looking forward to modeling leaves and creating feathers
    will be a great challenge.
She stores water and food in her acorn pouch Very Happy

I like where this is going. In addition to the references you pointed out (I love Froud's stuff!) look at the Boggins from Epic. They may be darker than the direction you're headed, but they do use small animal bone and hide as clothing/armor.

Also quick note, her left hand is on backward, the thumb should be on the other side.

I think it would be worth it to sketch a few more versions of her, before starting to model. Unless you're totally married to this pass. I think you might stumble across some new ideas, that might really give her some extra character.

Yeah that hand never sat right for me, and yes I was thinking of the Boggins from Epic.
I still need to see that movie. I'll do some more sketches especially one to show the side
of her from the back. I want to put in some possible bone armor and maybe some netting
she uses to ensnare her night time snacks.

Thanks man! it was originally going to be a raven's head, but I think this makes it more menacing.
Also less feathers to sculpt later on.
Can't wait to see what you come up with bounce  -that's me getting anxious to see your concept.

I was able to do some modeling and paintovers on my character over the weekend. I wanted to bang out the bird skull right away since it was gonna be a detailed part. I kinda went with my own direction not following my reference to an exact copy. However I like the two tone colors and the eye socket really drew me in. For the sprite I'm leaning towards a white to grey hair color, with dirt and dark patches in it. I wanted to do elongated ears to bring in a more animal look to her, plus I'm toying with the idea of one of the ears being maimed in battle. Thanks for stopping by Smile

I love how the models are coming out! The battle damaged ear is a nice touch.

Jaclyn - Thanks! Maimed ear it is.

So this is my update from last night. I had to play hair dresser and build her hair out of poly strips.
Also started on her torso. I'm going to give her elongated proportions, because I think it fits her character.
I plan to do some more paintovers and concepting but right now I'm just building volume.

This is what I came up with over the weekend. I'm pretty happy with the overall design.
I plan to have lots of color changes, and say a gradient in her main leaf.
I was able to take her into ZBrush so now it's time
to sculpt lots of fungus, spores, and moss. *fungus amongus

It's coming long nicely. I'm not sure on the anatomy of her arms though. Her arms seem unnaturally long. Another thing is in her torso - It's very straight as well, which does go with the original sketch, but there should be a difference between where her waist is and where her ribcage is.

It would just lend a little added realism to the form. If this is what you're goin for (less realism/stylized),feel free to just disregard what I said. Razz

    I likes da fungus!

Yeah she has very elongated limbs both arms and legs. I do plan to define more muscle areas on her.
She is way too smooth, and this is a girl who leaps on limbs of trees at night and fights off owls and other night creatures
that would have her for a snack.
    Thanks for the critz ^^

No problem. Muscle definition will be good. Smile I thought perhaps those choices were intentional, but you know...I try to help! Haha!

So I've been working on this on my off time. Just trying to build up some layering for the fungus
and mushrooms to reside in on her body. I redid the UVs on the leaf and plan to add some
detail to it as well. I need to also do a pass on her back side, although I don't plan for it to
be visible in my final render.

This is coming along nicely. I agree with the note regarding adding muscle tone, but I do like the longer limbs, especially since some of your inspiration comes from Froud's work.

Also I think it would be good to have some leather work or some other type of fastener to show how her headdress is held on.

I think it would be nice to have the fungus more clearly defined in terms of the shape of it's edges, and where it ends and her skin begins. Have it be more deliberate in your placement. Also maybe more pronounced so it feel like fungal growth and less like scar tissue.

Kind of like Radagast from the hobbit, he had all of that poop on the side of his head, but carefully and deliberately placed.
