Ashlee - Idea (no art yet)
Nick had sent me some pictures yesterday of women in full LEGIT armor from medieval times (Think Hilde from Soul C). I wanted to do something like this, but a bit more epic with the Darksiders feel. But that you wouldn't completely know it's a woman just yet until you see her face, which you will see as she's lifting up her Helmet.
I'm not 100% on it and am open to some suggestions.

Charlotte from Samurai Shodown might be another good game character touchstone for lady knights. I always thought they struck a good balance of looking purposeful but still feminine (shocking for an SNK game really) with her:
If you want to start from some historical reference and keep the "is it a man?", you could try this discussion of the arms used by Jeanne d'Arc: http://www.jeanne-darc.info/p_jeanne/armor.html
And even Brienne of Tarth from Game of Thrones, which has done an excellent job straddling the two extremes of fantasy and plausibility with their armaments:

Brienne of Tarth is a great reference point.
This isn't a bad resource either, as they do make replica armor fitted for women.

Thanks guys, these are great suggestions. Somehow my google skills aren't as thorough as yours -__-
I'll post my starter drawings later. Armor is difficult to make look "right".

Googling for reference is definitely it's own skill To be fair, the stuff I linked to were things I knew about independently of Google so I could target them directly. I used the ol' mental rolodex and a misspent youth acquiring an extensive knowledge of trivia.

Ashlee you should jump over and check out Max's thread in the weapons category. He has a decent amount of cool armor you may want to look at there as well.

These are some of my starts, trying to get a feel for armor, stance, body type... that kind of thing.

I think my favorite is the one in the back on the far right. I like the Helmet and attitude of the middle top one, but her shape makes her look pregnant a little bit.

I like the chick on the top right too, I also dig the helmet... the top one of the bottom three on the lower part of the page.
Maybe we should all add letters and or numbers if there are multiple different images per page, to make it easier for us to call out certain things.
I like that these are stylized too, and have a certain whimsy, which is different than what you might typically see.

Solid designs, and I like the take on the "unknown warrior." I painted over the parts that really stood out to me.
I really dig the spiked shoulder pads, it's gonna be great for the silhouette. Also I like the face mask and I think
combining it with the long hair would a great mix. Also reminds me of Vega from Street Fighter, there was always
a rumor in the arcades I played at, that Vega was really a woman.

The one on the far right feels the most consistent to me as far as the armor goes. I think some parts of it like the shoulder area and maybe around the waste can be a bit wilder. Like the armor on the far left's type of shoulders. Very successful first past i think.

So kind of went in a new direction..
New idea, going to give him some action poses and such. Plan to make him a bit darker, but still charming.

Whoa, this was a change in direction. lol. Will he have any simple filigree or patterning in his armor or chest?
I really like the change to the horns, from the plume.

It's sooo big it almost doesn't fit my monitor. Well they say go big, or go home. I really like the proportions
and coloring. Especially the rim light FX. We used that a ton on Skylanders. This reminds me of some of the
baddies in Wind Waker, props for that.

I kinda miss the trusty steed's tongue sticking out. I definitely prefer the horns over the plume.
The color is great though. Love the lighting overall. You work quick!!
