I'm not sure if this stuff helps, I thought it was interesting though.

Not sure what these are from. It feels like a film. I liked that they felt grounded in something real, but totally had a fantasy quality. Which is what I think you're going for. I could totally see these shapes being made from found objects.

This is Chinese but shows a rear view, I think you could infer from this some of what you could possibly do on yours.

This site actually has patterns for making armor. I think this is beneficial to all of us.

did a sketch from the front to sort out some of the details. I wanted to add in that plate scarf from the Korean guard armor:

I really like the direction of the bottom sketch. I also like the high collar. I can in-vision a whole illustration around that image. I would love to have seen the full figure.

I don't think I'll do a whole lot more with this particular image, I'm going to shift into doing detail drawings of the armor and explore what it might look like if made from found materials

I had my doubts, but seeing those polka dot pants, and sleeves, I'm sold!

Really digging this latest sketch! Definitely looks "bosslike". Although often times it seems like a particular aspect of a boss is exaggerated to give them more punch (like virgil's stupid large sword in DMC, or Doku's dark dragon blade in Ninja gaiden). Is that like a tattoo on the right side of his head and shoulder? Or like a curse mark or something?

The detail on his face and shoulder is a filigree of a screaming phoenix in his armor, kind of like the old Trans-Am hood graphic. I'm going to draw that out separate so it will be more clear. This character is starting to feel like something from Hiroaki Samura's Blade of the Immortal manga to me now, though I was not consciously referencing it. I haven't read it in years, but I recall liking the fantastical weapon design that didn't feel unbelievable or over the top. This character in particular is coming to mind:

spoiler alert: under those shoulder pads he has the taxidermied heads of women he has loved in the past

I will say I actually didn't focus on the polka dots at all. The blade being unsheathed totally caught my attention first and held it. But man....when ya see the polka dots, you can't un-see them Razz

This has definitely come a long way! I'm really enjoying the progress. I think it might be worth it to snap some shots of yourself in this pose, you could even drape fabric (towels or sheets) so you can have a solid reference for anatomy and cloth draping. For instance the area between where his clavicle is and where his chin would be feels a little short.

I really love the way the area of armor comes up around the lower half of his head. Also I just noticed something. What do you think about changing the horn shape, to something like the shape of the filigree on the lower part of the armor? That shape matches the rest of the armor really well and would integrate nicely as a horn. there is nothing terribly wrong with the existing horn, but a shape that feels more tied to the armor could be cool.
